Tropics on Fire!

Since my last post it's been relatively quiet in the surf department. Anne, Laura, Stuart and Andy did get an evening session on longboards that I opted out of. I chose to have a cold beer on the bench overlooking the scene at the Avon pier and take a few photos of my compadres instead. Andy and Anne bought themselves a new camera for their honeymoon trip to Ireland so I had the opportunity to get my hands on it. Technology is such a cool thing - I have to admit that I'm a gadget guy so anytime I have a chance to play with a sweet new camera, computer, TV, iPad, whatever I'm a happy dude! So it wasn't an epic session by any stretch of the imagination but they all caught a few waves and had some fun.

We've been tracking Tropical Depression 6 which quickly became Tropical Storm Danielle and even more quickly amped up to Hurricane Danielle and although we haven't seen any swell from it just yet we're looking at a forecast showing some serious swell on the way. On top of that, just off the coast of Africa is a new weather feature that looks to be our next named tropical system! Invest 96 is on the heels of Danielle and the early projected track has it following Danielle and staying offshore. The computer I'm on doesn't have a decent photo editing program so I apologize for the quality of the photo below of the Atlantic but it give you an idea of what's going on. Danielle is forecast to pass to the East of Bermuda then spin off into the North Atlantic and as of right now Invest 96 is forecast to drive pretty much straight to where Danielle currently is then also turn Northward and pass near Bermuda.

No lack of swell in the forecast for sure! The unfortunate part of the forecast is the wind. Right now the outlook is for winds in the low to mid 20mph range out of the NE which doesn't bode well for surfing conditions but the windsurfers might just be pretty stoked for Frisco/Hatteras/Ocracoke. Keep an eye on Andy's blog and see what he thinks - not really my department.
